Mazatzal 18 Mile Race

3rd Annual Rim Runners Mazatzal 18 Mile Trail Run. 

 

Event Date and Donation:

Sunday, November 21, 2021, at 8:00 am.  This year there is a $20.00 donation to help cover event costs including the BBQ. Runner donations will be collected when you check-in the morning of the race.  Left over funds after expenses are covered will be donated to the Payson Warming Center that provides services to the homeless in Payson. There will be a limit of 50 runners.  All runners must register by completing the registration information below.  

 

Location: 

Hwy 87 to the intersection of Mt. Ord/Sycamore Creek.  Turn west, (Sycamore Creek) on FR 627 continue on FR 627 for approximately 1.5 miles, turn right on FR 201, crossing the cattleguard, continue for another 1.5 miles turn left on FR 25, crossing another cattleguard, in about 1 mile you will see the start/finish area on your left and marked with a large Rim Runners banner – you cannot miss it.

 

Course Description:
 

The first nine miles are on dirt roads, ascending approximately 2,000 feet.  There will be an aid station at approximately 9 miles with fluids and snacks.   Next, six miles are on technical single and double track, finishing the last three miles on rugged to smooth dirt roads. 

We request that all entrants have experience running on technical trails. (this is not a course for beginners)  Plan on enjoying some of the most beautiful country you have ever seen in the rugged and remote Mazatzal Wilderness.

 

After Run BBQ
 

Join us for the after-run BBQ. Bring a chair, beverage of choice, and if you have a favorite side dish you would like to share with the group, feel free to bring that as well.  Lots of storytelling to be had at the finish.  Some of them even true!
